  • Sven Althoff

    Sven Althoff

    Non-Executive Chairman

    Argenta Holdings Limited

    Sven was appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of Argenta Holdings Limited effective from the 6th September 2017.

    Sven studied at Leibniz University in Hannover, Germany and obtained his Master’s Degree in Economics in 1993. In the same year, he joined Hannover Re’s P&C Treaty Reinsurance team responsible for business emanating from North America. In 1998 Sven joined the Marine department as a senior underwriter and subsequently became responsible for the worldwide Marine and Aviation business from 2000. In 2003 his responsibilities were further extended to include all classes of P&C Treaty business for UK and Irish ceding companies as a Managing Director. He was appointed a Member of the Executive Board in 2014 with responsibility for Hannover Re’s worldwide Facultative P&C business, UK and Ireland P&C Treaty business, the worldwide Credit, Surety and Political Risk business as well as the worldwide Aviation and Marine business.

    Sven is a Non-Executive Director of Argenta Syndicate Management Limited.

  • John Whiter

    John Whiter

    Non-Executive Director

    Argenta Holdings Limited

    John was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Argenta Holdings Limited effective 6th September 2017.

    John has had a long and successful career in Financial Services. He trained as a Chartered Accountant and spent nearly 20 years at Neville Russell (now Mazars) where he became Senior Partner in 1991.

    John went on to join Benfield Group (now part of Aon) as Chief Financial Officer, a position he held for 15 years until 2009.

    He joined the Board of Argenta Syndicate Management Limited in 2009 as Chairman and holds a number of other City-based directorships as well as substantial interests in the charitable sector.

  • Nick Moore

    Nick Moore

    Group Chief Executive Officer

    Nick Moore has nearly 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, the last 15 of which have been within the Lloyd’s Market. Nick was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Argenta Holdings Ltd with effect from 1st January 2023 having joined the Board in July 2022.

    Nick joined ASML as Chief Actuary in 2009, having previously spent time with the Corporation of Lloyd’s as Manager, Marketing, Reserving and Capital. He started in career at Swiss Re as an Actuarial Analyst. He was appointed to the Board of ASML in July 2012 and as Managing Director of the Company with effect from 1st January 2023.  

    Nick graduated from the University of Nottingham with a First-Class (Honours) degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

  • Graham Allen

    Graham Allen

    Chief Financial Officer

    Graham qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young in 1990, specialising in both the manufacturing and insurance sectors (including the Lloyd’s market).

    In 1994, Graham moved into a Lloyd’s managing agency role, where he worked closely with the underwriting teams for several syndicates, dealing with both financial and operational aspects.

    In 2001 he joined ASML and was appointed Finance Director in 2002. He was appointed to the Argenta Holdings Ltd Board in 2013 and Chair of the Argenta Underwriting Asia Pte. Ltd Board in 2023. 

  • Peter Bruin

    Peter Bruin

    Group Director Internal Audit and Corporate Office

    As Director, Group Internal Audit & Corporate Office, Peter is responsible for the delivery of a robust internal audit capability across the Group as a whole and for supporting the corporate activity of the wider Argenta businesses.

    Since joining Argenta in 1999, Peter has held a number of senior positions including terms as the Risk Management & Compliance Director and the Operations Director of Argenta Syndicate Management Ltd. Prior to joining Argenta, Peter spent over 20 years with leading Lloyd’s members’ agents.

    Peter is a member of the Argenta Holdings Senior Management Group.

  • Ian Burford

    Ian Burford

    Underwriting Director

    Argenta Syndicate Management Limited (ASML)

    Ian joined Argenta in July 2021 as Underwriting Director and Active Underwriter of Syndicate 2121 and SPA 6134. Before this he was UK Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Fidelis Underwriting Limited.

    Prior to Fidelis, Ian was active underwriter of Syndicate 2007 and underwriting performance director at Novae Syndicates Ltd.

    Ian’s career began in 1985 when he joined the LPSO in Chatham straight from school. After a few years on a very steep learning curve he was incentivised to leave Chatham and join the market in London. After a brief spell at EW Payne Ian joined Syndicate 636, part of the Barder & Marsh agency at the time. The syndicate merged with a number of others over a decade, culminating in Ian being part of the ACE Group and spending time in Bermuda. Ian left Ace in 1998 and joined SVB to start up a new syndicate.

  • Carol-Ann Burton

    Carol-Ann Burton

    Group Risk and Compliance Director and Chief Legal Officer

    Carol-Ann has over 20 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s and London market, joining Argenta in June 2020, where she holds the role of Group Risk and Compliance Director and Chief Legal Officer. She is a board member of ASML, where she is responsible for Risk, Compliance and Legal.

    Carol-Ann read Law and German at Trinity College, Dublin, before moving to London to train as a lawyer. Carol-Ann spent most of her career practising as an insurance regulatory and corporate lawyer, most recently as partner in HFW’s corporate insurance practice, and specialised in insurance regulation and transactions in both the non-life and life sectors. She is a contributing author to The Practitioner's Guide to the Regulation of Insurance and The Practitioner's Guide to Solvency II. She has also worked as a senior lawyer at the FSA and spent a number of years in the Middle East, including at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

  • Adam Cragg

    Adam Cragg

    Group Chief Operating Officer

    Adam Cragg was appointed group chief operating officer in July 2023. Based in London, Adam leads Argenta’s operations, supporting the business’s development and leading the execution of Argenta’s growth strategy.

    Adam brings more than 25 years of industry experience to the role, with specialisms in business transformation and technology. He joined Argenta from Lockton International where he served as chief operating officer for Global Marine, Transportation and Logistics. Before this, he was chief operating officer for AXIS International / Novae - helping to navigate and integrate the business during the 2017 acquisition of Novae by AXIS Capital. Prior to this, Adam served as head of UK and International Operations at Beazley Plc. 

  • Robert Flach

    Managing Director

    Argenta Private Capital Limited (APCL)

    Robert was appointed Managing Director of APCL in 2021. He has spent the entirety of his career in the insurance market, including 11 years at other members’ agencies before joining APCL in 2005.

    Since joining APCL, Robert has gained extensive experience in all facets of Argenta’s members’ agency business, including managing the company’s syndicate analysis and insurance market research function and operations team as well as looking after both private and corporate client portfolios.

    Robert completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Henley Management College in 2007. 

  • Sue Waskett

    Sue Waskett

    Group HR Director

    As HR Director, Sue is responsible for the delivery of the HR strategy in all of Argenta’s global locations. Her primary responsibilities are leadership and talent development, recruitment, reward, organisational effectiveness and employee experience as well as HR Operations.  Sue, supported by her team, partner with Argenta’s Senior Leadership Team to advance culture change, diversity, inclusion and employee engagement.

    Since joining Argenta in 2002, Sue has created and developed the company’s HR function and led Argenta through a number of key organisational changes including the acquisition by Hannover Re in July 2017.  Prior to joining Argenta, Sue held a number of senior head office positions across the diverse businesses and subsidiary companies of the NatWest Group.

    Sue is a member of the Argenta Holdings Senior Management Group, a Board member of Argenta Underwriting Asia Pte. Limited (AUA), and is a long-standing member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
