We learned this morning of the passing of Michael Meacock, Active Underwriter of Syndicate 727. Mr Meacock was away on holiday in Antigua and was with his family at the time.
He became active underwriter of Syndicate 727 in 1967. We don’t know of any underwriter in Lloyd’s history with such a long tenure in the market and we are sure that none will have such a distinguished track record. The managing agent has been uniquely successful as a small privately owned business in market which became increasingly corporate during the fifty five years of his stewardship. Since 1993, the syndicate has made an average return on capacity in excess of 8%.
When asked about his long tenure in the role, he would say that he could think of no better way of spending the day than tough negotiations on a difficult renewal with a senior broker, often followed by mentoring and assisting younger brokers when they came to the box. He was always a pleasure to deal with.
All at Argenta Private Capital Limited send their condolences to Mr Meacock’s family, colleagues and his many friends in the market.
Alec Taylor, Deputy Syndicate Underwriter, will assume responsibility for the underwriting of Syndicate 727 on an interim basis.
